I need to switch from Small Companies regime to a Charity layout — how do I do this?
In Bright Accounts Production, it is not possible to change the entity type of a client once it has been created.
When you first generate a client dataset, you select the entity type (e.g., Small Company, Charity, LLP, Sole Trader, etc.). This selection determines:
- The nominal ledger structure,
- The reporting format and layout,
- The compliance options available throughout the accounts.
Each entity type is built on a fundamentally different framework tailored to its regulatory and reporting requirements. As a result, switching from a Small Company to a Charity (or vice versa) is not supported within the same dataset.
To proceed:
- You will need to create a new dataset, selecting the correct entity type (Charity) at setup.
- Enter or import the trial balance and details into this new dataset.
- Apply any necessary compliance and disclosure information appropriate for a charitable organisation.
This ensures that your accounts are produced in full alignment with the relevant accounting standards and layout requirements.
