Where do I set or update the financial year-end for a client in Bright Accounts Production?
To update the Year-End Date for a client:
- Open the relevant Client Dataset.
- Navigate to Settings > Accounting Periods.
- Edit the Year End Date directly on this screen.
If the Year End field is greyed out:
- Go to Produced Accounts > Status.
- Change the status from Ready for Signing or Closedown to Not Stated.
- Then return to the Accounting Periods screen — it will now be editable.
Important:
- You cannot change the Start Date directly. The start date is automatically calculated from the previous year-end. To adjust the accounting period start and end dates for a client in Bright Accounts Production, you may need to remove the current year dataset if the prior year was only used to set up the client. You can then roll back to the previous year and adjust the year-end figure as required. If the option to change periods is greyed out, ensure that you change the status of certain periods. Go to 'Produce Accounts' > 'Status' and mark the last three periods as not started to unlock the ability to change periods.
- To alter the Start Date, you’ll need to:
- Delete the current year’s dataset,
- Then adjust the Year End Date,
- And re-run the Year End Procedure to rebuild the period correctly.
