Resetting HMRC ITSA Credentials

We’ve introduced a new HMRC ITSA Credentials Reset feature, making it easier for users to re-authorise and refresh HMRC authentication tokens for Income Tax Self-Assessment (ITSA) submissions.

This update helps users quickly fix expired credentials or authorisation errors without needing additional support.

What’s New

Previously, users experiencing HMRC connection issues often needed to contact support to reauthorise their HMRC credentials. With this update, you can now:

  • Reset HMRC authentication tokens directly within BrightAccountsProduction

  • Re-authorise access for ITSA submissions securely

  • Resolve expired or invalid credentials without assistance

  • Ensure seamless integration with HMRC for ITSA filing

When to Use This Feature

Use the HMRC ITSA Credentials Reset option if:

  • You see an “Authentication Token Expired” error when submitting returns

  • Your HMRC authorisation has lapsed or been revoked

  • You’ve changed your HMRC login credentials

  • You encounter authorisation-related submission failures

How to Reset Your HMRC ITSA Credentials

Step 1 — Go to HMRC ITSA Authorisation

  1. Open BrightAccountsProduction.

  2. Navigate to Settings → HMRC ITSA Authorisation.

Step 2 — Select Change HMRC Credentials

  1. Click the Change HMRC Credentials option.

  2. The system will redirect you to HMRC’s secure authentication service.

Step 3 — Re-Authorise Your Access

  1. Log in to your HMRC Government Gateway account.

  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to grant BrightAccountsProduction authorisation.

  3. Once successful, your new authentication token will be saved automatically.

Step 4 — Confirm Credentials

  • After reauthorisation, you’ll see a confirmation message that your HMRC ITSA credentials have been successfully updated.

  • You can now proceed with ITSA submissions without errors.

Troubleshooting Tips

If you still encounter issues after resetting your credentials:

  • Ensure your HMRC login details are correct.

  • Check that your HMRC account has ITSA filing permissions.

  • Verify that your organisation is properly linked to your HMRC account.
