The Financial Fixed Assets note in Bright Accounts Production displays additional subsidiary undertaking rows when there are postings to the relevant investment nominal codes.
If the 1st subsidiary undertaking row is greyed out or does not appear, the most common cause is that there are no postings to the relevant subsidiary undertaking investment codes for the current or comparative year.
Check whether the section is populated
First, check whether there is a balance against the relevant investment nominal codes.
- Open the client and go to the Nominal Ledger.
- Search for the relevant investment / financial fixed asset nominal group.
- Untick Suppress Zero so that nominal codes with no balance are also displayed.
- Check whether there is a posting against the subsidiary undertaking investment codes for either the current or comparative year.
Post the investment to the correct nominal code
If the investment has not been posted to the relevant subsidiary undertaking nominal code:
- Go to Journals.
- Add a journal for the relevant accounting period.
- Debit the appropriate subsidiary undertaking investment nominal code.
- Credit the corresponding balance sheet code.
- Save the journal.
- Refresh the accounts.
Then return to:
Compliance Database > Financial Fixed Assets
The subsidiary undertaking rows should now be available for completion.
You can then enter the relevant information, such as:
- Name of the subsidiary undertaking
- Country of incorporation
- Percentage of shares held
- Nature of the business
Investment posted to a general investments code
If the investment has been posted to a general Investments nominal code rather than a subsidiary undertaking-specific code, the balance may appear in the Financial Fixed Assets note but the subsidiary undertaking rows may not become available.
Check whether the posting needs to be moved to the appropriate subsidiary undertaking nominal code.
Where Bright Accounts Production provides an option to post to one nominal code while reporting the balance under a different nominal group, check that the appropriate reporting setup is being used.
Comparative-year figures
If the subsidiary undertaking investment is required in the comparative year, check that the comparative year also contains a posting to the appropriate investment nominal code.
If there is no comparative-year balance, the prior-year column may remain blank.
If the subsidiary undertaking rows still do not appear
If the relevant investment nominal code has a balance but the subsidiary undertaking rows remain unavailable:
- Confirm that the posting is in the correct accounting period.
- Check that the posting is against the correct nominal code.
- Refresh or regenerate the accounts.
- Check whether the comparative year has the appropriate balance.
- Contact Bright AP Support if the issue persists.
