An asterisk (*) appearing beside a director, company secretary or officer's name in the Directors' Report is expected system behaviour.
The asterisk is automatically displayed when an officer was appointed during the financial year. Bright Accounts Production assumes that any shares shown against the officer were acquired after their appointment date.
Why does the asterisk appear if the shares were held before appointment?
The asterisk can still appear even when the officer held the shares before they were appointed.
For example, you may have correctly recorded the shares in the Officer Details screen, including the No. of Shares at Year Start field. If the officer's appointment date falls within the financial year, the asterisk will still be displayed.
This is because the asterisk is triggered by the appointment date, rather than by whether the shares were actually acquired during the year.
Can the asterisk be removed?
If the appointment date has been entered incorrectly, check the officer's appointment details and correct the date where appropriate.
If the officer was genuinely appointed during the financial year but held the shares before their appointment, the asterisk may still appear as part of the system's standard reporting behaviour.
Where appropriate, you can consider using an appointment date before the start of the financial year, provided this accurately reflects the officer's actual appointment date.
Important: Do not change an officer's appointment date solely to remove the asterisk if the existing date is factually correct. The appointment date should reflect the actual appointment and statutory records.
