Why is there a figure under General Expenses that I can’t remove, and why is it missing from the trial balance?
If you're seeing a figure under Nominal 381 – General Expenses, but it's not visible on the trial balance and can't be removed, it's likely due to how rounding is handled in Bright Accounts Production.
By default, Nominal 381 is set as the Rounding Account. This figure may appear for several reasons:
- Unconverted Nominal Codes
- If there are unconverted nominal codes present, the system cannot place their values correctly.
- Go to Trial Balance > Tick ‘Show Unconverted Codes’, then assign Copy From Codes to ensure these values are recognised.
- This can prevent rounding differences.
- Posting Cents in Journals
- If journals are posted with cents, the system may round figures because cents are not displayed in the Chart of Accounts, reports, or produced accounts.
- This expected rounding is posted to the default rounding account (Nominal 381).
- Divisional Trial Balance Imbalance
- If you are using Divisions, and the trial balance for an individual division is not balanced, the difference is posted to the rounding account.
- Ensure each division’s trial balance is balanced to avoid this issue.
To check or change the default rounding account:
- Go to Settings > Accounts > Default Nominals and review the ‘Rounding Account’ setting.
